FUTURE OF THE 4HP LIBRARY AND CAREERS CENTRE

WELCOME to the Home Page of the website http://www.newlib.co.uk

The original purpose of this website was to provide background information to members on the issues that had led to the calling of General Meeting of the Society on 30 November.  That meeting has now been held and the two resolutions passed there are set out in Bulletin 9.  The meeting did give members the opportunity to express their views on the transfer of the Library and Careers Centre to Farnborough and the motions that were passed called for their return to No 4 Hamilton Place. That was the first step in the campaign.

The resolutions were before the Council at its meeting on Monday 8 March 2010. The Council noted the report of the General Meeting and then resolved, by unanimous decision, that the ‘ongoing nature, operation and location of NAL provision should now become the executive responsibility of the Library Operational Group......and that membership of the Group should reflect a range of representative points of view.’  We understand the wording is intended to give the Requisitionists the opportunity to participate in this process.  The Council resolution made a similar provision for determining the future provision of careers services.  The text of the Council resolution and our comment on it is given in Bulletin 12.

We must now await developments.  The website will remain open as a bulletin board that is not subject to the limitations of the rigid press schedule and monthly frequency of Aerospace Professional. We plan to update it as and when there is any further significant news to report .

Publicising the website continues to be important to our cause because it is our most practicable way of communicating with the signatories of the requisition and others who share our views on the key issues. We ask our supporters therefore to make other members of the Society aware of the address and existence of this web site so as to ensure that it has as wide a readership as possible.

If you wish you may also send comments to aero.bookworm@btinternet.com
but please note that there are constraints which prevent us from publishing your contributions directly on the website.  Your comments will nevertheless be helpful to us in preparing any input we may make to deliberations on the future of the two services.
