FUTURE OF THE 4HP LIBRARY AND CAREERS CENTRE

WELCOME to the Home Page of the website http://www.newlib.co.uk

The original purpose of this website was to provide background information to members on the issues that had led to the calling of General Meeting of the Society on 30 November.  That meeting has now been held and the two resolutions passed there are set out in Bulletin 9.  The meeting did give members the opportunity to express their views on the transfer of the Library and Careers Centre to Farnborough and the motions that were passed did request their return to No 4 Hamilton Place. That is the first step in the campaign. The Council now has to consider its response.

The website will remain open as a bulletin board that is not subject to the limitations of the rigid press schedule and monthly frequency of Aerospace Professional. We plan to update it as and when there are any further significant developments.

Publicising the website continues to be important to our cause because it is our most practicable way of communicating with the signatories of the requisition and others who share our views on the key issues. We ask our supporters therefore to make other members of the Society aware of the address and existence of this web site so as to ensure that it has as wide a readership as possible. Since other channels are not available to us we are critically dependent on an efficient grapevine operation to ensure that our message gets across.

At its next meeting, currently scheduled for Monday 8 March 2010, the Council will deliberate on the future of the Library and Careers Centre in the light of the resolutions passed on 30 November. We suggest that members who wish to express their views ahead of the meeting write to the President, preferably sooner rather than later. We also encourage letters to the editor of The Aerospace Professional.  Although these will now reach the members only via the Society website, they will be available there for Council members to see and will also be included in our Bulletin 8.

If you wish you may also send comments to aero.bookworm@btinternet.com but please note that there are constraints which prevent us from publishing your contributions directly on the website. Your comments were nevertheless very useful as indications of your thoughts ahead of the General Meeting; they will also be helpful to us in preparing any further input to the Council ahead of its March 2010 meeting.
